Day 57 - puns

Koitiata —-> Bulls holiday park 33km

Waking up to a gloriously sunny day helped with the feeling of dread I had about today. A morning along the beach (the sand still gives me nightmares) followed by a loooooong road walk into the town of Bulls.

The beach was a little busier this morning - fisherman every km or so set up with their utes and eskies, ten lines each out in the water. I watched as one put up a drone with his fishing line attached, flew it out into the ocean, drop the line and flew it back. The next guys who were somehow putting their line out by hand felt comparatively Stone Age.

I was off the beach by 12pm but now faced the same issue as yesterday, finding somewhere out of the sun to stop and eat. I was baking. It was so hot on the road into Bulls that the tarmac was melting, I had to stop using my poles as they were getting stuck in the road.

I eventually found some shade under a tree and was joined by a little hodgeheg friend! He thought my shoes were particularly interesting, how on earth he wasn’t put off by the smell I have no idea.

The rest of the afternoon was along a country road, the only notable thing being a small section which provided me with mountains of blackberries.

I turned up in Bulls just after 5pm. It felt quiet, no one really around giving it a slightly dodgy vibe. Not really dodgy dodgy, just on the dodgier side of Kiwi towns. I walked around… oh the bull puns.

The holiday park where I was camping that night took the pun one step further and had an actual live Bull in the field next door.

My feet were sore, I must have sat on the edge of the pool for over an hour soaking away the day’s hard terrain. I cooked dinner and went to bed “looking forward” to more of the same tomorrow.
